Away from the warmth of our homes and the comfort of our beds, team Redbrick joined 150 people at Nottingham Racecourse for Framework’s Big Sleep Out.
The Big Sleep Out is the homelessness charity’s flagship fundraising event which aims to raise vital funds to get rough sleepers off the streets. Whilst the evening doesn't replicate what it is really like for those who are homeless, it was an eye-opener into some of the struggles faced daily by people sleeping on the streets.
We arrived on site and started building our cardboard shelter before bedding down for the night, hoping to get a bit of sleep. Luckily, the temperature was pretty mild for October and there was no rain. However, we were woken by a mouse scurrying across Carly's bed in the middle of the night!
We smashed our fundraising target, so a massive thank you to the friends, family, and clients who donated.
We're proud to pledge support to Framework in its mission to end homelessness and have been donating consultancy expertise to the Nottingham-based charity (read about our CSR partnership here).
Earlier in the week, we joined Framework’s Street Outreach Walk. We were keen to meet the team on the frontline and see firsthand how Framework is helping to tackle disadvantage.
At 5 AM, we set off on a walk of the City Centre and surrounding areas to check in on rough sleepers. It was a real eye-opener and quite emotional at times seeing so many people sleeping out on the streets during anti-social hours. By 9 AM, we had already clocked up over 12,000 steps!
